The educational offer in our kindergarten is influenced by the location of our houses. Our children experience the city in the same way that children in the countryside experience growing up in a rural environment. Where we live will in many ways shape us: The children living in the city enter of Bergen experience that their good childhood is linked to the streets and alleys, the parks, theatres, cinema, concerts at USF Verftet, the playgrounds and all the museums. The kindergarten helps to facilitate this.
We have always had an identity as an art and culture kindergarten. We have worked on various projects with the aim that the children will have new art experiences and be encouraged and inspired to use more of their creative skills. We strongly believe that working creatively has a positive effect on other aspects of the child's development, including on the intellectual level. The kindergarten has won the National award for art and culture in education – the Kindergarten Award – twice: In 2010 and 2013.
Every year we immerse ourselves in an art project. Our profile as an art and cultural kindergarten leaves its mark on how we work, what the children want to experience and how our annual plans will look like. Educational documentation to visualize how we work is one of our methods. Largely we rely on ideas from the Reggio Emilia pedagogy.
